Welcome to Bergen, Corvus Energy
The factory was officially opened by Monica Mæland, Norway’s Minister of Local Government and Modernisation, as part of a special ceremony on Thursday (5 September).
Corvus produces large‑scale batteries for the shipping industry, and has seen its order book grow significantly after moving its headquarters from Canada to the Bergen region.
Invest in Bergen is proud to have played a role in this success story, by working with the company to find the perfect location for its new factory.
Vidar Totland, Senior Project Director for Invest in Bergen, says: "We are delighted to welcome Corvus to our region, and we are honoured to have helped them to move over here."
“This new facility will create jobs for Greater Bergen, as well as helping to drive the shift towards low‑ and zero‑emissions shipping in Norway. We see that it’s interesting for companies working with clean shipping to settle in our region.”

Corvus’s new factory is set to bring jobs and growth to the Bergen region.
A robotic opening
Corvus unveiled its gleaming new factory in front of a crowd of hundreds as part of an evening reception.
The robotic helpers opened a bottle of bubbly for the evening’s guests, as a reference to the advanced and almost fully‑automated work that will be carried out here.
Although the factory will be home to more than 50 employees, there will be very few humans on the actual assembly floor. Instead, sleek robotic arms will construct Corvus’s battery packs for ships including ferries and cruise liners.
Monica Mæland told the assembled guests that “there is a growing market for low‑ and zero‑emissions technology around the world. Our maritime industry must be able to seize these opportunities, and Corvus plays an important role in this.”
Geir Bjørkeli, CEO of Corvus Energy, added that the company was “very proud to be powering a clean future,” and said that the opening of the factory was “a very exciting day.”
New conference on clean shipping
Alongside the opening of the factory, last week also saw the launch of a new conference in Bergen.
The Maritime Hybrid & Electric Conference ran from 4-5 September at the Scandic Bergen City Hotel.
The conference discussed the latest innovations in hybrid and electric technologies, as well as how they can provide significant reductions in fuel consumption, maintenance costs and emissions. The event will be returning to Bergen next year.
Helping to create jobs and growth
Corvus carried out a thorough search before deciding on the location for its facility. Luckily, Invest in Bergen was there to help along the way.
Our team provided an overview of various locations across Greater Bergen, along with helpful information on costs and the feasibility of building on different greenfield sites.
Despite competition from other parts of Norway, the company eventually chose to settle down in the Bergen area, creating new jobs and growth for the region.
Invest in Bergen is committed to assisting other companies to establish themselves in Greater Bergen, with the help of our local knowledge as well as tools such as the “ArealGuiden” location finder.
