UiB Announces Postdoc Positions for SEAS Programme

The University of Bergen announced the first call for applications for 18 postdoctoral positions. This will be for its upcoming Shaping European Research Leaders for Marine Sustainability (SEAS) programme.

“We are creating a cohort of 37 postdoctoral researchers, which we will be recruiting for over a two-year period,” said Amund Maage, Marine Director and Programme Coordinator for SEAS. He highlighted that SEAS is a “career and mobility fellowship programme” that will focus on a variety of ocean-based research fields.

Creating Future Research Leaders

The overall aim of SEAS will be for the selected researchers to contribute knowledge for “a more sustainable marine future”. In turn, SEAS will offer these postdocs opportunities to study and train within various areas of marine sustainability. In addition, the program aims to prepare them to take on future leadership roles.

“These postdoctoral candidates will work on either currently ongoing or new, original research projects that will contribute to SEAS as a whole,” said Maage. He added, “We hope that we will create research leaders, who will go on to lead their own research projects either in academia, government or the private sector”.

The programme is supported by the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under the Marie Skłodowska-Curie grant agreement.

Maage added, “We are seeking the best and most motivated scholars from all over the world for these positions, which cover a wide field of marine subjects from deep water research to the health effects of new and existing marine foods”.

The deadline for the first call for applications is October 31st, 2021. A second call will be held in August 2022.
