Prime Minister launches new ocean strategy in Bergen

The ocean industries are strong in Norway. With its new ocean strategy, the Norwegian Government facilitates more research, innovation and technological development to create new businesses and jobs.

The launch took place at The Institute of Marine Research’s brand new research vessel «Dr. Fridtjof Nansen» in Bergen. ‘We hope this strategy will set the direction for developing the possibilities in the ocean. This will create new businesses and new jobs,’ said Prime Minister Erna Solberg at the presentation.

Research is vital

The government continues to emphasise the ocean industries such as seafood, shipping, oil, gas and subsea, industries where Western Norway in particular has a strong position. The government challenges the researchers and the industry to think outside the box, enabling Norway to position itself as the world’s leading ocean nation.

The strategy urges the researchers and the industries to engage in innovative crossover projects. Sustainability plays an important role in the future of the ocean industries, and this is emphasised in the strategy.
