According to the Norwegian Research Centre, NORCE, the new reservoir simulator will contribute to the upscaling of storage capacity for CCS projects

NORCE unveils new CCS Solution

The Norwegian Research Centre, NORCE, recently unveiled their new reservoir simulator for carbon dioxide (CO₂) storage. This new tool could potentially contribute to future large-scale Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) projects.

The new reservoir simulator software was developed in collaboration with SINTEF and Equinor. It was designed to address the need for large-scale underground CO₂ storage. Available as part of the OPM Flow Reservoir Simulator, this software will contribute to upscaling the storage capacity of CCS projects.

“A reservoir simulator can be used, among other things, to find out which reservoir is best suited for CO₂ storage, as well as whether CO₂ will remain in the reservoir if it is stored there,” said Sarah Gasda, NORCE Research Director and Project Manager for the HPC Simulation Software for the Gigatonne Storage Challenge.

Decades of Expertise

This new solution was built on decades of NORCE’s expertise in geology and reservoir technology for safe, long-term seabed CO₂ storage solutions. It combines the collaborative industry, research and administrative efforts of NORCE, SINTEF and Equinor.
