New impetus in Norwegian yards

The export revenues from the Norwegian maritime sector are predicted to exceed NOK 100 billion for the first time in 2023. Industry collaboration is an important driver for this increase, and the sector expects the activity in Norwegian yards to blossom in the years to come.

The Norwegian marine industry is already in the lead in developing efficient and environmentally friendly solutions on Norwegian vessels; seamlessly integrating emission reductions and smart mobility.

Launching new program

Collaboration and governmental ambitions are pivotal factors in seizing the opportunity the path to modernize and de-carbonize the whole sector. The technical solutions are generating international interest, as are the clusters and the co-creation in the whole value chain.

This week, the Norwegian government invited the industry to a new partnership program called “More and greener maritime solutions”.

- The program’s goal is to establish a partnership where we address the challenges we need to solve to continue on the road towards a greener industry, said Minster Minister of Fisheries and Ocean, Cecilie Myrseth.

Her department has proclaimed that emissions from Norwegian sea freight and transport and fisheries are to be reduced with 50 % by 2030.

New impetus for Norwegian yards

Invest in Bergen’s industry partner, the cluster Maritime CleanTech, is a key player in the public-private partnership.

- We are looking forward to following – and strengthening – the new program. Collaboration is needed to take leading roles in the International Maritime Organization’s path towards 2050, states head of Innovation and Project Development in Maritime CleanTech, Øyvind Huglen.

The joint effort on designing greener vessels have already caused a new impetus in the yard sector, as the number of Norwegian built vessels are increasing. Mr. Huglen predicts the activity to continue to grow the coming years, creating new business opportunities for both Norwegian companies, but also sets a stage for international companies who wants to take part in the Norwegian maritime clusters.
