Since 2005, NASF has served as a meeting point for the global seafood and aquaculture arenas. Industry heads and innovators gather to share valuable insights, new tech innovations, and awareness of key issues affecting today’s markets.

A Tech-Focused Event

Technology is changing the seafood and aquaculture industry. Recognising this, the North Atlantic Seafood Forum will launch the conference’s first tech-focused event, NASF Tech 23.

NASF Tech 23 will serve as a showcase where leading aquaculture technology suppliers can present innovations, solutions and services that “are likely to shape the future of aquaculture”.

“NASF is all about enabling decision makers to make the best decisions for the future,” said NASF General Manager André Akse.

NASF Tech 23 will be held on opening day – Mar. 7th, from 14:00-17:00.

NCE Seafood Innovation Awards

The NCE Seafood Innovation Awards will be presented on day 2 - Mar. 8th, from 09:00-10:45. Hosted by the NCE Seafood Innovation Cluster, DNB and Pareto Securities, nine startups will showcase “innovative business ideas to potential customers, partners and investors”.

"This year’s lineup is designed to show the extent of innovation, both in tech, as well as in the mindset of these firms and the industry as a whole," summarised Björgólfur Hávarðsson, Innovation Manager for the NCE Seafood Innovation Cluster.

Changing landscape

Like many global industries, the seafood and aquaculture sectors have become increasingly digitised and tech-driven over the last decade. According to Hávarðsson, various factors have contributed to this shift.

"This development is definitely a convergence of a changing industry mindset (a new generation of management that demands real-time data), accessibility to technology and increased complexity of the seafood and aquaculture industries as a whole," he stated.

Greater Bergen – a leading hub

Greater Bergen has long been a leading hub for the global seafood and aquaculture industries. Moreover, these industries have been quick to embrace increasing digitisation.

The NCE Seafood Innovation Cluster is involved in a number of next-gen industry projects, such as AquaCloud, iFishIENCi, and NewTechAqua. They’re also among various collaborative partners working with the Norwegian Cognitive Center, a Norwegian national centre for the use of applied AI across various industries.

“Bergen is, and has been synonymous with development, market awareness and an outward-facing attitude in the seafood industry,” said Hávarðsson. “That legacy hasn’t been lost and there’s no reason to think that the vibrant environment and strong mix of established industry and innovation will not grow in the years to come”.
