Greater Bergen has long been a key hub for Norway’s shipping industry. As the industry looks to decarbonise, the region’s wealth of competence and skilled manpower will be essential in driving key innovation and sustainability projects. Both hydrogen and fuel cell technology are currently being explored as alternative propulsion components for the shipping industry.

“The interest in hydrogen as a marine fuel is increasing significantly. A dedicated marine and optimized hydrogen fuel cell solution is a vital step toward the decarbonisation of shipping,” said Corvus Energy CEO Geir Bjørkeli. “Being able to test both battery and fuel cell systems together and make them work in perfect harmony will potentially revolutionise the global maritime industry”.
