Corvus Energy Opens New Testing Site

The new testing site, which was officially opened by Vestland County Vice Mayor Natalia Golis, is set to play a vital role towards prototype testing and validation for the H2NOR project.

Greater Bergen has long been a key hub for Norway’s shipping industry. As the industry looks to decarbonise, the region’s wealth of competence and skilled manpower will be essential in driving key innovation and sustainability projects. Both hydrogen and fuel cell technology are currently being explored as alternative propulsion components for the shipping industry.
“The interest in hydrogen as a marine fuel is increasing significantly. A dedicated marine and optimized hydrogen fuel cell solution is a vital step toward the decarbonisation of shipping,” said Corvus Energy CEO Geir Bjørkeli. “Being able to test both battery and fuel cell systems together and make them work in perfect harmony will potentially revolutionise the global maritime industry”.

Key to H2NOR project
The H2NOR project, which is being led and coordinated by Corvus Energy, is a collaborative project aimed at decarbonising the shipping industry. It is working to develop, test, scale and fast-track the production of sustainable maritime hydrogen fuel cell systems.
Along with Corvus Energy and Maritime CleanTech, this consortium includes industry partners Toyota, Equinor, Norled, Wilhelmsen and LMG Marin, as well as the University of South-Eastern Norway.

The project is expected to begin commercial deliveries by 2024.
