Both Marø Havbruk and E. Karstensen Fiskeoppdrett are family-owned firms that have jointly operated since 1996. Sveen added that data sharing will be important for the further development of the seafood industry and an advantage for project participants.

Encouraging others to share

Kristian Blom, General Manager for AquaCloud, said that he is pleased to have both Marø Havbruk and E. Karstensen. He added that he hopes that more aquaculture companies will join.

“The participant’s willingness to share makes our data more attractive and makes it possible to create data-driven insights, which is the ultimate goal”, said Blom.

At present, Aquacloud has nine partners providing data. According to Blom, the data provided contributes insight. He further added that the seafood industry is transitioning from being experience-based to being data-driven and insight-based.

“The appeal lies in the fact that there are many people who collect data for the industry. That's how we can really learn something”.

Blom also added that Aquacloud will work to launch more concrete projects with its current partners.

“We are going to make major improvements in our work surrounding sensor standards, new initiatives regarding fish health and welfare, as well as in overall standardisation. We will also expand the platform”.

Established to solve key challenges

AquaCloud is a data-sharing platform established in 2017 that works to develop datasets and services to facilitate data exchange in the seafood industry. The goal is to solve challenges and contribute to the industry’s sustainable growth.

Aquacloud was established by NCE Seafood Innovation together with cluster members Lerøy Seafood, Grieg Seafood, Bremnes, Lingalaks and Bolaks. Today, AquaCloud operates as a separate firm while also contributing to the cluster’s investment in digitalisation and digital transformation.
