52,000 New Jobs from Floating Offshore Wind

Developing Norway’s floating offshore wind sector can create over 52,000 new jobs and up to NOK 96 billion in turnover by 2050. This is according to a report published by industrial consultancy firm Menon Economics.

“The floating offshore wind industry alone can create as many as 52,300 jobs by 2050,” said the Norwegian Shipowners’ Association in their press release. They added that this represents 25% of employment within Norway’s oil industry in 2019.

The report encourages the further development of Norway’s floating offshore wind sector, in order to allow it to compete in the international market. According to the report, Norway’s floating offshore wind sector alone could have a turnover of NOK 96 billion by 2050.

These recommendations are in line with the Norwegian government’s offshore wind initiative. In his press conference, Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre presented his government’s plans of increasing Norwegian offshore wind energy production to up to 30 gigawatts by 2040.
