A new offshore wind project is getting 28 MNOK to develop more efficient and thorough application processes so that the development of offshore wind can proceed more quickly in the oceans outside of western and southern Norway.

28 million to faster offshore wind

Companies in Greater Bergen are engaged in offshore wind. Experience from the oil, gas and maritime sector is now being transformed and used in offshore wind. There are many options also for foreign companies to be part of a growing supply chain.

A new research project is now being launched: ImpactWind SouthWest Project. The project aims to develop more efficient and thorough application processes so that the development of offshore wind can proceed more quickly in the oceans outside of western and southern Norway.

Need for more energy

In the future, the whole region will need more energy to develop new green solutions and to take an active part in the green shift. The development of offshore wind will increase access to electric power necessary for increasing electrification and the development of new power-intensive industries.

This project brings together a regional research institute, three regional universities, four industry clusters, two national industry associations, seven license applicants and one recycling supplier in an interdisciplinary capacity boost aimed at license application processes.

Faster application processes

The goal of the project is to enable faster development of offshore wind through the development of research-based knowledge and long-term educational and research capacity for efficient license application processes.

The four industry clusters in this project are GCE Ocean Technology, Norwegian Offshore Wind Cluster, Norwegian Energy Solutions and GCE NODE.

The seven license applicants in this project are Norseman Wind, Aker Offshore Wind, Eviny (BKK), Shell, NorSea Group, DeepWind Offshore and Agder Energy.

The three county municipalities in this project are Vestland, Rogaland and Agder.

The academic partners in the project are The University of Bergen (UiB), The University of Stavanger (UiS), The University of Agder (UiA) and NORCE.

NORCE will have the project manager role.
