By utilising the latest innovative technologies, these companies work to create digital products and solutions that can drastically improve patient care, allow for greater independence, especially among elderly patients, and enrich the overall quality of life.

Increasing value

Innovations in healthtech and the health industry – whether improvements in diagnostics, treatment methods or follow-up care – have led to increased value creation and reduced costs for patients.

According to a Menon Economics report, the value of the Norwegian healthcare and healthtech industries has grown significantly over the last decade. Between 2020 and 2021, companies dealing in digital health, pharmaceutical products and healthcare technology distribution reported strong growth, despite challenges due to the pandemic.

Gaining international recognition

In recent years, many international health companies have turned to the region as an example and a prime hub for cultivating new digital services and solutions for patients. This is due to Greater Bergen’s – and Norway’s - highly sophisticated digital infrastructure and commitment to providing the best quality of life.

Business opportunities

Combining Norway’s healthcare system with its tech-driven foundation has created a breeding ground for its emerging healthtech sector. This sector is likely to grow, creating solutions that will undoubtedly save lives and improve the overall quality of life.

Developed digital foundation

Greater Bergen offers healthtech firms two clear advantages: a highly developed digital infrastructure and a populace with high digital literacy. As the region’s digital communication capabilities continue evolving, it will ensure the transformation of medical discoveries into impactful solutions. There are currently several firms in the region specialising in care apps and telemedicine.

Collaborative environments

Organisations like the Norwegian Smart Care Cluster and Eitri Medical Incubator work to help healthtech firms develop market-ready, life-saving solutions and products. They also provide access to their company and investor networks.

At the heart of these networks is Haukeland University Hospital. This teaching hospital works closely with the University of Bergen’s Faculty of Medicine in driving cutting-edge medical research and training.
